The 43 foot “D-Trip”, one of our competitors, invited 3 of our racing crewmembers to race the prestigious Antigua Sailing Week in April of 2011 with them. We helped them achieve a 2nd place finish after losing our chance of being 1st due to failure of the steering system. We had to retire from one of the 7 races to repair our steering cables being pushed to 5th place for not finishing a race. Working hard after repairs we managed to save the regatta and we went home with 2nd place. The Aruba Rembrandt Regatta 2011, with two of Tranquilo’s crew members, “D-Trip” won 1st overall. Three of Tranquilo’s teenage crewmembers moved on to sail their own boat, the 24 foot “Rafaga” to a 1st place in class that same event. The crew of “D-Trip” rescued a catamaran sailor lost at sea during the event. Despite efforts of the Coast Guard, Police helicopters and Dutch Marines, he was spotted by Capt. Anthony first, and was brought aboard “D-Trip”. Three of Tranquilo’s crewmembers, two of them teenagers helped sail “D-Trip” to a 1st overall in the Bonaire International Sailing Regatta in October that same year. Curacao Heineken regatta was sailed on “Rafaga” with Tranquilo’s all teenage crew and Anthony to a first in class position in November. “Einde Jaars Race Curacao” (end of the year’s race), out of 48 starts, “Rafaga” sailed to a 2nd place finish with two of Tranquilo’s crewmembers and two borrowed crewmembers from Curacao.

Next up for Tranquilo is a possible Aruba Rembrandt Regatta with its infamous round Aruba race in August of 2012 and the new date for the Curacao Heineken Regatta January 2013 including dry dock at Curacao Marine for new bottom paint and a wax job on the top sides.

August 2010

3rd place Aruba Rembrandt Regatta racing class.

November 2010

1st place feeder race Curacao Heineken Regatta and 4th place racing class.

We have had some bad luck on the crossing to Bonaire and had to battle a small electrical fire off the coast of Curacao in the engine room resulting in a burned out starter motor.

Once in Bonaire, this made it impossible for us to get in and out of our tight slip in the marina and canceled our racing except for the long distance “Lac Bay Race” which we managed to win for the fourth consecutive year breaking our own speed record for that race. Next is the Curacao Heineken Regatta in November.

Recently the Rembrandt Regatta Aruba was held, a two day racing event where 3 races were sailed. For the first time after many years of winning in the cruising class, the Tranquilo decided to go sail the racing class instead. For not being an all-out racing sailboat, we held our own in this class and are very happy with our results. The first race was around the island of Aruba, a total of 13 yachts crossed the starting line. Tranquilo came in 4th smashing her own previous record around Aruba making her the fastest Aruban yacht to sail around Aruba.

On the second day we sailed two races and took first place in the first race, beating D-Trip, a modern version of Tranquilo who just happen to be the winners of division A in the Antigua Sailing Week 2009. In the last race we took second place losing to D-Trip by just a few seconds ending in 2nd place overall, not bad for a 40 year old boat.

Now that all on board systems have peen pushed to their limits, we are looking forward to the Bonaire International Sailing Regatta in October.
